I was asked to consider LinkedIn's recognition of Black Heritage Month in 2021. Coming out of the growing conversation around equality, our team considered a range of solutions. Ultimately, though, the best approach was to stay quiet. We provided space to LinkedIn members who've been affected by discrimination and mistreatment in the workplace. Nadia Hallgren, the visionary director of Michelle Obama's documentary Becoming, helmed the project.
I'm saddened to see the momentum around diversity, equity, and inclusion disappear, and in many cases, reverse course. This assignment was eye-opening to me, and I, for one, refuse to be in spaces or on teams that are unable to recognize the dichotomy that exists for white and non-white professionals. I hope to continue to be a part of the solution with any future team or role.
