Problem: While receiving a fantastic education at Gonzaga, marketing students are entering a workforce that has an ever-shifting array of Marketing roles. Academics provides a fantastic foundation, yet the real-world application is what's lacking.
Solution: In conversations with Gonzaga, where I did my undergrad, I heard about the need to better prepare students for the job market. Together with the school, I created a 400-level marketing course that served two purposes:
1. Connect students with Gonzaga alums to discuss the paths alumni took in marketing.
2. Teach students how to create digital content (podcasts) by showing them the production process I've learned in my career in advertising. This included instruction on interviewing skills, booking guests, recording high-quality audio, storytelling, editing, and then ultimately launching the shows.
Students created 24 different podcasts that are now available on Apple and Spotify. I've since heard that the shows have truly helped recent grads on their job searches. Here are just a few of the amazing podcasts that were made.
Role: Course development and instruction. Creative direction.
